I am writing to strongly urge the Regional Transportation District (RTD) and Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) to jointly implement the Greater Denver Transit (GDT) Downtown Bus Plan.

The Downtown Bus Plan reflects over 2 years of collaboration, drawing on recent RTD ridership data, national best practices from cities like Seattle, Portland, Houston, and Minneapolis, and input from local riders and planners. This evidence-based approach ensures the plan is not only ambitious but also practical and ready for implementation.

The Downtown Bus Plan will grow ridership on RTD’s bus network benefiting from accelerated journey times, improved connectivity, and navigability. It supports Denver’s objectives to increase transit mode share, reduce congestion, and promote sustainable transportation options. Moreover, by enhancing access to key destinations and underserved neighborhoods, the plan fosters greater equity and inclusivity in our transit system.

I therefore call upon RTD to implement the proposed routing adjustments and on DOTI to invest in the plan’s enhanced bus stops and dedicated transit lanes. By adopting this plan, RTD and DOTI will greatly enhance bus journeys in Downtown Denver, reigniting civic momentum and public support for the community benefits provided by transit.
