Subject: Your Recent Article – Light Rail vs Commuter Rail

Dear ,

Greater Denver Transit (GDT) read with interest your recent article ‘ARTCLE TITLE’ (ARTICLE LINK) and we noticed that you referred to the A Line station at 61st & Peña as “light rail”.

The A Line uses commuter rail technology which features trains that are faster and have a higher capacity than those used on the light rail. While we appreciate this distinction may come across as pedantic and are also are very much aware the term has historically been used to describe any RTD operated train in Denver, I’m sure you share our belief that the press should be as well-informed as possible regarding transit matters.

If you need assistance with identifying whether an RTD line is commuter rail or light rail, please go to the RTD Fleet pages we have on our website for guidance or do not hesitate to contact us. It is also acceptable to refer to any RTD operated line as simply “rail”.

Yours sincerely,
